About us
The Queensland Centre for Intellectual and Developmental Disability (QCIDD) supports the healthcare of people with intellectual disability through research, teaching and advocacy. The centre is headed by Dr Cathy Franklin. QCIDD is part of the Mater Research Institute – The University of Queensland (MRI-UQ) within the Faculty of Medicine. It is located at the Mater Misericordiae Hospitals in South Brisbane.
QCIDD Goals
The Centre is dedicated to pursuing the following goals:
- The dissemination of knowledge and the development of education to students, general practitioners, other medical and health practitioners and disability service providers
- The initiation and participation in the preparation of applications for research funding
- Supervise and conduct research projects relevant to the health of people with developmental disabilities
- Fostering links with organisations and individuals involved in the care of people with developmental disabilities in the community, including general practitioners, specialist medical practitioners, allied health professionals, Queensland Health and key community based organisations.
The Queensland Centre for Intellectual and Developmental Disability clinical service (QCIDD) is now provided by Mater and has been renamed the Mater Intellectual Disability and Autism Service. This service supports people with intellectual and developmental disability, through research, teaching and clinical activities. The services will continue to run as they have previously via QCIDD. The service location remains the same: Mater Young Adult Health Centre Brisbane, Salmon Building, Raymond Terrace, South Brisbane. The referral process has changed. Please direct your referrals to the Mater outpatient referral process and select Intellectual Disability and Autism Service on the referral form.
